Cate Brown

Cate joined Reviewed and Cleared in 2026 as a media content lawyer, and advises on legal, regulatory and reputational issues.

Having begun her career at Burges Salmon, where she gained litigation experience, including in the field of defamation, Cate has spent the past decade working as an investigative journalist, Producer / Director, and more recently Executive Producer. She’s been nominated for a RTS, an AIB, and a Broadcast Digital Award, as well as winning a British Journalism Award.

In making content across television, film, digital, print and podcasts, for both UK and foreign media, Cate knows the creative and editorial process inside out. She's passionate about supporting clients in the industry to achieve their ambitions, helping to calmly navigate challenges alongside them.

Throughout her media career, Cate has successfully mitigated legal and editorial risks pre-publication,  as well as defending Ofcom complaints upon broadcast. Her practical knowledge of media law — which spans defamation, privacy, confidentiality, data protection, contempt, and intellectual property — has been supplemented by her academic work. Cate is a Visiting Lecturer at City University, teaching media law to post-graduate journalism students, and has written training materials for Channel 4.

Cate is available to provide clear and pragmatic advice, and enjoys delivering user-friendly training to media clients.

In her spare time, she teaches Pilates and loves being active, preferably outdoors with a dog in tow.
