Caroline Marshall

Caroline is an experienced media lawyer who advises content creators, producers, publishers and broadcasters on legal and compliance issues across television, film, print and podcasts. Her work covers compliance with the law and regulatory standards across a wide range of genres, including entertainment, comedy, drama, reality, non-fiction, complex factual documentary, and news.

Originally from Glasgow, Caroline is dual qualified in Scotland and England & Wales and so is uniquely positioned to support creators across the two jurisdictions.

Before joining Reviewed & Cleared, Caroline was a Senior Associate at Schillings, working with high profile clients in the media and entertainment sector. Caroline managed significant libel cases and advised on defamation, privacy, confidentiality, data protection, contempt, and intellectual property. Having worked for celebrities and global brands, Caroline also advised clients on crisis and reputation management, as well as legal options for addressing inaccurate online content.

As a media litigator with experience in the High Court and Court of Appeal, Caroline understands the legal risks associated with publishing media and journalistic content. She offers clear and practical advice to publishers and broadcasters on how to mitigate legal risks pre- and post-publication.

In 2023, Caroline was named as one of Management Today’s 35 Women Under 35 in recognition of her pro bono work aimed at improving children’s safety online and making the law more accessible. She continues to take an interest in ensuring that content made for children is compliant with the law and applicable regulatory standards.

Caroline spent time studying in Tokyo while at university and is now proficient in written and spoken Japanese. She enjoys supporting creators with addressing legal risks in content relating to or prepared for distribution in Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

In her spare time, Caroline enjoys playing video games and going to theatre, and continues to take Japanese classes in central London.
